Governor Andrew Cuomo and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone have both declared states of emergency in advance of the approach of what could be an unprecedented storm system converging on our area.

It has been my experience in working for Suffolk County that we have an outstanding level of emergency preparedness and response -- both from professional law enforcement and emergency managers, and our dedicated volunteer first responders. I urge you and your families to consider the following:

-Visit either the county (www.suffolkcountyny.gov) or state (http://www.dhses.ny.gov/) emergency preparedness web pages. Here you can access up-to-the minute information on evacuation routes, shelter locations and storm surge maps.
-You will also find information on the steps you will need...| read more ››

On October 17th, Newsday endorsed Rich Schaffer for Town of Babylon Supervisor. See below for text of their endorsement.

Editorial: Elect Schaffer for Babylon supervisor

As if to prove that you can come home again, Babylon Supervisor Richard Schaffer is back at his former job and reveling in it.

The town board appointed him to the job this year to fill the vacancy left when Steve Bellone was elected Suffolk County executive. Now Schaffer is running for the one year left on Bellone's term.

As he did at the end of his 1992-2001 tour as supervisor, Schaffer, 48, of North Babylon, wears two hats: supervisor and chairman of the Suffolk County Democratic Committee. That raises the question: Can he handle...| read more ››

Oct

2012

Huntington Station, NY - New York State Assembly candidate Joe Dujmic today called upon the Long Island Power Authority to release the full details of its recently announced Amended and Restated Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with National Grid, and delay implementation of the agreement until it can be coordinated with the utility's 2010 Request for Proposals for new power generation.

On the Right Path

Oct

Earlier this year, a Blue Ribbon task force that I appointed to examine Suffolk County’s budget crisis informed us that we were facing a three-year budget deficit of $530 million – a shocking number that was far worse than we could have imagined.

With your support, we have taken the tough measures needed to pull our county out of this mess and avert a fiscal disaster. In just the past few weeks, I am proud to say that we have taken important steps to move Suffolk County forward including unanimous, bipartisan support for a contract with the PBA. And I am particularly proud to say something many thought unthinkable several months ago—I introduced a balanced budget which stays within the...| read more ››
