As the 2022 summer boating season begins, the Town of Babylon remains committed to public safety and keeping our waterways safe for all to enjoy. Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman and Public Safety Chairman Terence McSweeney were proud to recently partner with members of the U.S. Coast Guard to offer residents a free boater safety class in North Babylon.
By 2025, all watercraft operators born after January 1, 1988 must complete a New York State Boater Safety Course as part of “Brianna’s Law.” This comprehensive boater education law requires all power boaters and those who operate sailing vessels through auxiliary power, complete a boating safety course. It was signed into law in August 2019 and went into effect on January 1, 2020.
The Town thanks the U.S. Coast Guard as well as Blue Marlin Boats of Seaford for their partnership in bringing this important safety initiative to our residents.
