Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Councilman and Human Services Chairman DuWayne Gregory and the Town Board were delighted to once again welcome Executive Director of the Keep Your Change academic enrichment program, Dr. Pam Robinson to Town Hall for a presentation and discussion about the historical context of the Juneteenth holiday. TJ Hatter of New York State Attorney General Letitia James Office, Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre and Legislator Tom Donnelly were also in attendance.
Town employees and members of the community were able to learn, view artifacts on display and ask questions about this part of American history and came away with a more complete understanding of the end of the Civil War, the end of slavery and the celebration of the now federal and New York State holiday, first recognized by the state of Texas in 1980, the birthplace of Juneteenth.
"We are so grateful to once again welcome Dr. Pam Robinson to Town Hall to present on the Juneteenth holiday," said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. "Dr. Robinson's presentations are always insightful, informative and captivating, and this year was no exception. I thank her for making time to come speak to our staff and our community."
